“Will Sheff calls upon the gods of fiction, poetry and theatre to deliver a dual sonic and lyrical masterstroke… a likely contender for the finest indie rock record of the year” Drowned in Sound

“Okkervill River’s best yet” Uncut 4/5

“Sheff’s songwriting here is lyrically more abstract, and musically more expansive than ever. With up to thirteen musicians playing together at any one time, and Sheff himself assuming the role of producer, I Am Very Far is like a big budget Hollywood adaptation of a cult novel.” The Quietus

“A record full of twists & turns and a sense of wonder” Q 4/5

“Genuinely awe-inspiring” The Daily Telegraph 4/5

“The song writing is uniformly great” The Guardian 4/5

“A magnificent sixth album from a band surely due to crack the mainstream” BBC Music

Okkervil River have announced details of a new single along with a headline slot at this year’s End Of The Road festival. ‘Your Past Life As A Blast’ will be released as a 7” on 5th September and is taken from their recent critically acclaimed sixth album ‘I Am Very Far’ on Jagjaguwar.

The Will Sheff-fronted Texan six-piece have also been announced as headliners on the Garden Stage at this year’s End Of the Road festival on 3rd September in Dorset. The festival rounds off a busy summer playing US shows with The Decemberists, a US headline tour and a number of European festivals over the summer.

This UK appearance follows Will Sheff’s acclaimed solo show at London’s St Pancras Church at the end of March and the band’s sold-out gig at Heaven in London in May. Further UK headline dates will be announced shortly.

Work on ‘I Am Very Far’ started after a year spent on other projects. Sheff contributed vocals to The New Pornographers’ album ‘Together’, wrote a song for Norah Jones’ ‘The Fall’, produced an upcoming album for the Brooklyn-based band Bird of Youth, and helmed Roky Erickson’s acclaimed ‘True Love Cast Out All Evil’ with Okkervil River. Sheff was subsequently nominated for a 2011 Grammy for his liner notes to ‘True Love’.
