“their latest album of hazy, slack (but somehow still epic) rock jams. It’s a formula the band has down—a sort of blue collar Philadelphia update of classic rock tropes set against a constant ambient thrum. It’s a beautiful record that worms its way into your brain before you even realize it.” TheFADER.com

“Granduciel’s knack for writing songs that really mooooove has only sharpened with time. Because once it warms up, it really flies. Sheets of fleet-footed acoustic guitar are strummed to a blur. Synths whir. A piano purrs. Granduciel hoots and hollers out bus windows. But, above all else, this song’s backbone is the kind of drumbeat that begs to be tapped out on a steering wheel.” Pitchfork on ’Baby Missiles’

An explosion of colour and noise; awe inspiring and completely brilliant” The Line of Best Fit

“Granduciel’s burgeoning compositional skills and his vast attention to intricately wrought sonic structures make Slave Ambient rich with things money alone can’t buy — wit, imagination, ambition, excitement, that kind of thing. It’s a thrill. Something’s happening wherever you turn on tracks that are dense with detail and brilliant accumulations of incident, but never overwrought or too busy, sheer grace their common link.” 5 stars, Uncut

Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs have released a brand new video for the charging, triumphant album track ‘Come To The City’ plus giving away a free download of the track.

Ahead of the release of ‘Slave Ambient’The War On Drugs’ sophomore album of mile-high rock anthems, due out 15th August on Secretly Canadianthe band have teamed up with Urban Outfitters for this hazy promo clip. The video follows an LA gang doing some wilding on the outskirts of the sprawling metropolis.

Also you can now hear ‘Slave Ambient’ streamed in it’s anthemic entirety exclusively on Urban Outfitters for a limited time HERE.

Recorded throughout the last four years at frontman Adam Granduciel’s home studio in Philadelphia, Jeff Ziegler’s Uniform Recording and Echo Mountain in Asheville, NC, ‘Slave Ambient’ puts the weirdest influences in just the right places. Synthesizers fall where you might expect more electric guitars (and vice versa); country-rock sidles up to the warped extravagance of ’80s pop. Instant classic ‘Baby Missiles’ is part Springsteen fever dream, part motorik anthem. ‘Original Slave’ might sound like a hillbilly power drone, but ‘City Reprise #12’ suggests Phil Collins un-retiring to back Harmonia.

As previously announced, The War On Drugs will tour extensively from August, making it over to Europe and UK in September. The dates are below, and more shows will be announced in the coming weeks.
